Before the pandemic, Jennifer Knox often goes to her bar, immersed in the sound of local strum musicians along with their guitars. Now, her restaurant – The Sand Bar located in Tybee Island, Georgia – is quiet without customers or staff. Like other restaurants, The Sand Bar must close when officials force for switching to delivery. As stopping the spread of the virus, the authorities issued limits to control the disease.
Therefore, this did businesses, including Knox difficult financially. When she sat in her empty bar ending March, she looked around and discovered an opportunity to help her unemployees. For nearly 15 years, patrons have left their mark by writing on a dollar bill and closing it on the wall, on the ceiling. Knox, who worked as a barista at the bar for seven years before owning it, now operates the bar with her mother, Pam Hessler.
For the next three and a half days, five volunteers accepted the tedious task of taking down the money. Besides, there are a number of currencies from different countries around the globe. After taking down the bills, it takes about a week and a half to clean them up and count them. In total, they have $3,714, and the bill stacks pile up in piles across the bar. After hearing about Knox’ s return action, some customers donated. In sum up, Knox was able to spend $ 4,104 on its employees. Four bartenders and two musicians each received $ 600, she said.
Refresh the bar
Knox hoped that The Sand Bar would re-open when all was over. When patrons come back for a cold drink after relaxing on the beach, they will notice a new bright coat of paint. She is thinking the other way to the guest leave their mark.
