Coronavirus: Exercise could protect you against deadly complication!

After finding the benefits of regular exercise against the coronavirus, the researcher has urge people to follow his method. Furthermore, it could lead to the finding of a potential treatment strategy. Zhen Yan, PhD, of the University of Virginia School of Medicine, shared this information in his review. Notably, various medical research findings “strongly support” the probability that exercise can play a significant role in fighting the virus. In details, it could prevent; or at least reduce the severity of ARDS.

For now, the rate of effects lies between 3% and 17% of all patients who tested positive COVID-19. Furthermore, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention predicts that around 20% to 42% of the hospitalized case will develop ARDS. Besides, the scope for patients admitted to intensive care is expected at 67% to 85%. On the other hand, research carried out before the pandemic implied that approximately 45% of patients who develop severe ARDS would die.

Exercise

“All you hear now is either social distancing or ventilators. As if all we can do is either avoiding exposure or relying on a ventilator to survive if we get infected,” Yan claimed. “The flip side of the story is that approximately 80% of confirmed COVID-19 patients have mild symptoms with no need for respiratory support. The question is why. Our findings of an endogenous antioxidant enzyme provide important clues and have intrigued us to develop a novel therapeutic for ARDS caused by COVID-19”. He further added: “We cannot live in isolation forever. Regular exercise has far more health benefits than we know. The protection against this severe respiratory disease condition is just one of the many examples.”

Potential Treatments

His review also recommends extracellular superoxide dismutase) could be a potential treatment for ARDS. Besides, it could also help in the treatment of other diseases.
